Do I have any options for puffers in my 29? Would one GSP be ok?
This would also be my first venture into brackish/salt. I know i need salt and the refractometer. Would I need anything else besides the normal equipment? My pH is around 7 from the tap so can I used crushed coral to keep it up? I would also like to plant java fern and anything else that would work. And would a HOB filter be OK? I wouldn’t have space for a canister.

I'll give my 2cents :) I've recently (about 3 weeks ago) bought a single GSP for my tank which is 28 gallons. I really like him, and even though you are so limited with other fish (basically none others) you can keep, I think they are worth it. You can keep one in a tank that size, but it's probably not the best environment. I plan on one day getting a 55 gallon for him. I moved my canister over to this tank, and put the HOB on the other, because another member confirmed a canister is best, because with brackish, the spray from the HOB will muck up the glass top and other parts. You do need to go at least high end brackish with him, which is a salinity of 1.018. Some will say they do best in full marine, but I have no plans of doing that, and I think that is still debatable. Coral sand or crushed coral will be a must to keep your ph up near 8.0. I currently have java moss, java fern and vals in my tank. I'm still slowly raising the salinity, but I suspect my vals will not make it. From what I read, java ferns and mosses can live in brackish. We'll see
GSP's like lots of things to explore and hide in, so making a rock area, he can explore in would be a good idea. There are feeding requirements, that aren't hard to meet, IMO. Think about breeding your own snails - they love them.
