Uh oh....
I dont really know what happened. I did the weekly 50% water change and made sure the tank was the same tempterature as before and its like my puffer went into shock or something?? He is floating at the top of the tank breathing harder than normal. His eyes arent even moving like they normally do. He will make fast movements but then he will float and act dead with nothing moving, no breathing at all. Then, within a minute he will breath and move and then it starts all over again. What do I do?? What is happening to him? Is he dying?

Do you have a liquid test kit yet? What are your water parameters (pH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, temperature, etc.)? Did you use water conditioner that removes chlorine, chloramine and heavy metals when you did the water change?

You never answered. Did you fully cycle this tank or not? You avoided the question so which leads me to believe you didn't test or cycle. It's this or you forgot to use a water conditioner, however, he would have passed away rather quickly if that was the case. I'm not trying to be accusatory - I'm just blunt.

Yes, I did cycle the tank for a week before I got the fish. I did the water conditioner before hand, and there is no nitrates, nitrites or ammonia in the tank. This seems to be almost of an "episode" for my fish, as it has happened twice in just a week. The water stays that same, (about 70 degrees).

A week to cycle the tank? Did you seed it from a pre-existing tank? If not then thats just not long enough to properly cycle a tank...

And that's why I thought he was dying from some sort of toxin poisoning. You didn't cycle the tank properly because there should be nitrates. It takes almost a month for a tank to cycle from scratch and you fish was displaying signs of it just from what you told me. Also your water is way too cool. It needs to be around 77-78 degrees. You should return the fish if you still can.
