Actually came out for a few seconds to eat at dinner time. It was the most we have seen of him since he came to live with us. I guess we can call this improvement.

I guess the end result here is that a dogface is not nearly as gregarious as a porcipine. brian the dogface, while still spending most of his time hidden in the rock, does now come out to eat, and even occasionally swim around. seems like to much trouble to send him to the dog face 'pound', after all this time and so much worry, so i guess we will keep him and hope some day he lightens up a little...
