Green Spotted Puffer Questions

I just recently remembered that my friend's dad once tried (and failed quite horribly) at breeding discus on a fairly large scale, turning his entire basement into a breeding option. This guy had never even kept fish before so he was somewhat doomed from the start. Anyway...he was devastated by the failure and apparently is willing to give me anything from his fish room for free. This includes an 80g tank, which I plan on using for a Jack Dempsey, and a number of 40g breeders.

So, would a green spotted puffer work as the sole occupant of a 40g breeder? Also, I've read tons of mixed information about the salinity requirements of this fish, with a few people saying that they can even be acclimated to very hard, high pH freshwater, some saying they need to eventually be acclimated to mild brackish, and yet others saying they eventually need full marine. So, what's the truth? Also, are there any plants I can keep with a GSP? I've read that java fern will survive brackish water, but just how brackish, exactly?

Also, I've never kept a brackish tank. Do I need any sort of equipment or special considerations (I'm thinking mainly for filtration) other than just regular freshwater filtration? I'd probably run a reverse flow UGF, an oversized power filter, and maybe one of those Magnum H.O.T.'s.

Will this work?

They breed in low end brackish water and will be fine in high end brackish while younger but will eventually have to be crossed over to saltwater

Alright. Like I said, I've never had a saltwater tank of any kind. Would I be fine just using regular dechlorinated tap water with a marine mix, or would I be better off getting R/O water? And are there any special considerations I'd need in terms of filtration, or do I approach brackish/saltwater filtration in a similar fashion to freshwater? I wasn't going to have any kind of live rock or corals, and no other fish.

thats the same question i have like i mean some people say theyll need to eat snails but i thought snails will perish in a saltwater tank and also the petshop snails(saltwater)cost like 2-4-10dollars each so again is it possible to breed em?(snails) any substitute to feeding snails? anything else that will do well? and also cant they just be put in a brackish water? like ived heard?also how long will it take for the individual to grow?
