A big upgrade

Hi! I am new here, but I have had my puffers for about 2 years. I have 2 figure 8 or green spotted puffers. The guy I bought them from said they were figure 8, but they have that florescent spot that the green ones get. Right now they are over crowded in a 10 gallon fish tank with 2 silver danos and 2 tiger barbs. I just purchased a 55 gallon tank so that my puffers will have more room.

What else would you suggest I get to add to my 55 gal. tank? I was considering a plecko, but I don't know what other community fish would work best. The 2 puffers I have now are super friendly and pretty tame. They mostly leave the other fish alone and dance at the top of the tank.

suggestions?

Thanks,

Sarah

get more tiger barbs. they should be in groups of at least 5, more is far better.

check out fish profiles (second tab across the top) for information on a lot of different fish, including what they go well with.

**I freely admit that most of the information I share I have learned from other people on this forum and am simply repeating. I thank you for sharing your knowledge and ask that if I say anything incorrect someone will kindly correct me**

Holy cow that is overcrowded! They will love you for their much needed tank upgrade.

I will! I was doing research to see about tank companions, and so far I was thinking of some of the following (depending on what is available and $$)

- 1 snow flake eel
- Barbs (I liked the following)
clown, red crystal, tinfoil, and rosy
-Rainbow fish (i liked all the variations)
1 rainbow shark
- killfish

I think that any tetras, gouramis, or angelfish would be miserable.

Barbs I think are a good idea, the eel is completely marine so I don't think it would work with just a brackish set up, depending on how salted your water is. Rainbow fish like to be in groups of 5, so I don't know if that would be good in a 55 gallon with so many different fish unless they were dwarf rainbows, but I don't know that for sure considering I suck at imagining dimensions in my mind. Rainbow shark can be very aggressive from what I understand though if you have enough space and the right tank mates it should be ok.

40 gallon with 13 hermit crabs- 11 PPs, 1 E, 1 Straw
25 Gallon
~2 Dwarf Puffer- Sidney and Cairo, 4 Amano Shrimp, 4 Blue Pearl Shrimp, 4 Yellow Cherry Shrimp, 2 Mandarin Cherry Shrimp, Too many RCS, 4 Crystal Red Shrimp, 4- Otos

5 gallon
~White/Teal/Red Betta- Phantom, Snails

25 Gallon
~Leopard Gecko- Desert Rose

if the fish has a green glow it is a green spotted and not an F8.

They should be kept at 30 gals PER fish and will require a high SG, it might be better to go full marine with them and have the 55 as a species (puffer) only tank. As they get larger there will be aggression issues with the other fish.

If you think I am too abrasive there is a little triangle icon in the bottom left of your screen to "report post".
